Ms.Bartell's Wonderful, Happy cooking project

Time flies when I am having fun. It's true. At the morning of Saturday, I went to school for cooking with some foreign students. I am excited about cooking because I am fond of having the feeling of be appreciated and succeed. With this opportunity, I am sure I do a good job.
Our French leader Max was told to make something like pancake. He first organized us into two groups. Two of us were going to buy some condiments, and others were able to find main ingredients, like flour, egg, and oil. After collecting all kinds of food, it’s time to start our mission. We put flour into a big pot, then mixed it with milk evenly. In a moment, eggs might be infiltrated into the mixture. For next about half an hour, the mixture was fermented by keeping it settled alone, then smeared the oil around the flat-bottomed pan, finally made the paste as a circle cook on the pan. After baking for three or less minutes, the pancake were done. Tasting two pieces of it, I found out it was something like egg waffle in China like my father always has for breakfast. However, I thought it may be better tasted if I was a French or a foreigner, but on the other hand, I could have that experience, and in the future, I also can show it when I go abroad. Next day, Ms.Bartell told us to cook for all classmates, the mission should be finished on Monday, and after asking some details about the food I did, I found out I had made a mistake of the name of the food, its name is CREPE…and some small mistake about the whole cooking steps of crepe, finally I corrected it, so it’s successful to make the food at home. It’s completely finished, but I still had some details to notice.
I like the feeling of cooking happily, and this kind of project gave me a perfect chance to know how to cook when I am really starving in a foreign country.

Public Events

On May 1st, I went to the Chinese flowering crab apple exhibition in the Mochou Lake Park with Sky, King, Matt, Dennis, Chester, Jim, Rita, Ethel, Erik and Richard from 10-B. After a long trip on the bus, I finally arrived at our destination at a quarter to eleven in the morning. Looking for a while, I found Dennise on the stop standing there lonely. I suddenly walked towards Dennise, "Oh, you frighten me to death!" A long time of waiting again...
After about twenty minutes, my friends reached at last. ( Oh, my gosh! Do you know my grievance?) At quarter past eleven, we together bought the tickets of the park, very cheap, only costs 20 yuan per person. From the name of the famous park and a little bit history I have already known, I felt there was a beauty in the centre of the park. After all friends get their own tickets, we went into the pretty world. First scene went into our eyes were a big fountain with flowers around. "Take photos, take photos!" Sky noticed. Continuing visiting for about twenty minutes, we arrived at the small entrance of the flower exhibition. In front of the gate, the poster labels“Park of precious Malus spectabilis”. Walking along the paths between different kinds of plants slowly, the grass and flowers were greeting us. The Chinese flowering crab apples were all around, but the scene seemed not as my ideas, I considered there might be a huge amount of flowers lovely blooming, but most of the plants just had leaves. Wondering why the flowers were like that, some of us were taking photos with flowers, and others were appreciating what they saw and what they had found. Some also worried there had no beautiful flowers around, but I realized these little trees would be the bases of the flowers, from these trees, beautiful flowers grow in the future.
I knew that something happened in a pity, but I also knew lucky things come after!

The happy, wonderful Fashion Show

Erik and me

April 27th,2009, the fashion show finally dropped its curtain. Many activities were held in GCA, the fashion show was such a big one. Last night, I took part in the wonderful Fashion show with Erik and other classmates after we having fun and finishing eating dinner.
It was 6:10, the Fashion Show began with all people’s exciting shouts. At the beginning, on the large stage, there were students wearing causual clothes as hosts, and after announcing for a while, with music fluttering up and down, all the teachers wearing special clothes walked on to the stage. Ms.Bartell and Ms.Hadley first came into our eyes with flowers in their hair which seemed a little bit classic( like in ancient China). After female teachers, Mr.Harris was striding and dressed a brown suit with sunglasses on. I thought: WOW! Mr.Harris was so cool and totally different than I considered before! Is that Mr.Harris... The next followed, it’s Mr.Shapour! It’s the most interesting one all over the world! His body was covered by a silver space suit which on the back there was the sign "GCA" for short standing for our school. So funny, eh?
The fashion show was really interesting, however, unluckily, some parts of this project could be improved. For example, the show only lasted for about an hour, and during the festival, all students or teachers who were not models didn't have chances to show their enthusiasm by participiating in the activity. More fun could be held up, and more students would join, not only standed and looked at the models. On the other hand, it’s absolutely happy for me to work for my teacher on designing the clothes, see how successful I did also can improve myself. The ticket price is very cheap, only 15 RMB each person. Some thought that the fashion show was not as good as they thought, but I realized it’s a meaningful experience for us, though there some pities left. I was happy that I could have a chance to go to such a cool performance, and I am also very expected for the next time, the magnificent fashion show!

Volunteer/Work Experience

During this laber holidays, I finished my volunteer work in Phoenix International Bookstore on Shan Xi Road with Tim in 10-D. With a whole view of the bookstore, I considered it was the largest bookstore I have ever seen. The tall building is clearly made of glass, which seemed to be something like a shrine to the readers. From the transparent windows, we can translucently see that it has five floors. With my curiosity, I went into the bookstore. Certainly, it includes a huge amount of varied books, such as novels, biographies, fairy stories, textbooks, and even books in original English...However, this bookstore is unlike our impressions of common bookstores like Xinhua bookstore, with its large area, there are audio and video store, animation shop, musical instrument store, even Starbucks Coffee. What a fun place I visited! ~ First walking around it, I noticed the signs of directions which can tell how and where to find one's wanted books. After the arrangement of our job, I found my way to my working place, an electric dictionary and study machine counter by the useful sign. With no experience, I might be directly acquainted with the knowledge about the machine. After finishing the learning, I felt it was really boring to stand there for five hours because there was not much customs looking around for the dictionaries. Chatting was a good way to count one's thumbs. So I talked with the counter girl. In my daily study, I always check my e-dictionary. So I'm very familiar to the functions, but mine is different brand. As she talking about the machine, she also introduced me some other advanced things. Something called Ozing Children Study Machine attracted me. It can read the words you touch from any textbooks. Many things are involved; I cannot show all details... Truly felt, standing for two and a half hours in the counter was such a tough and terrible thing. I could not move any more, and my legs were too achy. ~Oh, how to pass the boring time!~ Suddenly, I saw that next to our counter, there is the place selling musical instruments. I rushed to Tim, and asked to rest for a few minutes. As an expert on playing piano, Tim still went to enjoy himself. With his music, my musical elements were stimulated. I played my guitar as soon as Tim was playing piano. I realized that so many people were reading around us. Our music brought them a peaceful environment. Kids and some customers were all enjoying it. After playing for a while, Tim and I both felt that the temperature was really high in the giant bookstore. So we went down to the ground floor at once, getting enough money together to buy a cup of icy Starbucks coffee. Then, hot body was waked up by the frozen drink. After the hard work, though the process was painstaking, we paid out. The green tea frappuccino blend cream was really delicious, because sweating was delightful. From the volunteer work in Phoenix International Bookstore, I learned a lot about the management of a bookstore. Realistically, I also knew that everything is not such a piece of cake, we must pay our effort. My volunteer work in a bookstore, ha-ha ~I'm Lovin' It.

Dinner at Dayu Teppanyaki

People regard food as their heave, so do I! For my mouth, noodles, beef and all delicious foods are my favorites. So at the afternoon of this Saturday, my friends and I went to the Dayu Teppanyaki in 1912 for dinner. Foreign restaurants always have some traditional delicacies to taste. For my curiosity of Japanese foods, such as sushi, I figured out to eat teppanyaki. We arrived there at about 6 pm. It did not cost me so much time to reach there. Every time, the chosen hotel or restaurant is next to my home. So luck, eh? ~
Sitting on the sofa, I ordered a plate of Japanese sautéed noodle which also includes vegetables. Erik and King took two bowls of cooked rice from the menu, and other two, William and Charlie wanted to have the same kind of noodle as I had...Hu~ this part finished!
"Ha-ha!" King told a big joke came from his daily routine, and then we were all bursting out laughing. Long time passed; finally, there were all dishes on the table. After brewing for the dishes, we grabbed them all. Tasting is a kind of knowledge. Well, I liked all the things I ordered because they were palatable and fresh. These types of yummy food I haven't eaten are unique feelings, because rice is our main food, to discover a new style will be a better try. The environment was relaxed there; all the tables and chairs were peacefully ordered with very long back nearly reaching the ceiling. The atmosphere in whole gave me the deepest impress when I first walked into the lobby; the romantic melody was roaming around that made me think of beautiful girls next to me. Customers were almost lovers and friends, spending long time chanting and laughing as a party. The service was so-so, but the waiters and waitresses were polite and can remember which guest ordered what in one table. I will recommend other people to eat there if they can afford it; all the things there were so great! Thanks for eating, thanking for having fun~

Nanjing Museum of PALAEONTOLOGY travel notes

Raining for all day, when sun smiles; it's time for us to have some fun. By the way, it is said that we must attend one professional exhibition for our own portfolio. With having a marvelous lunch and sleeping soundly for a while, I get up and decide to take a look at the paleontology museum besides our sub district with my mom.
History is what, I don't know. However, I know no history, no human being. On the other hand, history is any processes which develop essentially, to show it as a proverb, "Forgivable, but unforgettable." We have to and should discover the process of things developing.
Stepping on the rugs which already faded, we arrived at the museum hall. What heaves in sight is a giant bronze relief, although we thought that it is very ugly, but above is actually engraving the inexhaustible extinct organism knowledge, in this world the knowledge is the most beautiful thing, both mom and I have learned one of the meaningful truths. Which stand on our right side are three giant dinosaur fossil skeletons, respectively, there was the mamenchisaurus, stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus, mother gained ground, surprisingly called out, I looked along with her line of eyesight, originally in our top of the head was also being hanging four dreadfully, but actually very energetic small pterodactyl fossil skeletons. “Ancient animals are really too winsome!” Mom and I always with one voice nearly acclaim.
On the way of traveling to the past, I realized what invertebrate paleontology, paleontology and micropaleontology are. Also from the collections and exhibit specimens, I knew what the evolutionary history of LIFE is. The most fascinating ones were these kinds of original animals living in the sea. Nowadays, we still wonder the Loch Ness Monster is alive or not. To my opinion, the monster survives. There, many kinds of knowledge are shown, so I cannot describe all.
Time passes quickly when you are having fun! Journey of the museum have gone, the development of things are deeply impressed~ I love this theme, so I like the fantastic exihibition~

MY verifications of personal health and physical activity

MY verifications of volunteer work

MY personal Health,physical Activity report

"Let's get it started! Ha~!" I often say this when I get ready to do something.
This winter holiday, with the requirement of physical activity, I was going to play basketball instead of doing nothing at home.
With the appointment with my classmates before, I came to school excitedly in the afternoon. To my surprise, Erik arrived even earlier than me, he was right here for about ten minutes. I hurried up to him, and started to play. Some time later, after the arrival of Charlie, Mike, Avery, we began to have some matches. However, the number of players is not on the average, so we called some other students who are just friends on basketball to play together. The game was scheduled to come after we warmed up by shooting and running around. Long before that, people had begun to reach here. The basketball fields were almost all taken up. The playground was like someone beating the drum. The noises of basketballs falling down fluttered in the air, flowing back and force…
After that, we two chosen teams ran out onto the field. The referee blew his whistle, and then the game started. A basketball game is divided into two halves, with a rest period between the halves. During the first minute of the second half, the score was tied. From then on, the game was very exciting. First we made a basket, then the rival. During the game, everybody inspire enthusiasm and rushed around in the small area actively. The wind cheered like audiences, and made the intense competition to the climax. Can everybody wonder which team was going to win? The ball hit the rim of the basket and seemed to hang there for a moment, and then it fell through the hoop. The whistle blew, and the game was over. We won!
I begin to play basketball when I was in elementary school. Although I had learnt to play it at a very young age, I made no evident progress during that time. It seems that only until last time I realized the interest of it: playing basketball is not only playing it, but put your heart in it. Frequently, I played it when my mood was not so good, but after doing some sports, I would feel much better.
In my spare time, I prefer to watch NBA. I think the spirit of NBA should be: emit your passion with your brave heart. From this perspective, I prefer even admire Jordan. I dream that one day I can also become a brave man, and I can face with all kinds of obstacles and frustrates confidently. This is my thought derived from this interesting sport and there is no doubt that I will love this sport more and more when time goes by.

Fighting! Fighting!

——It was one of the matches among my friends, but I think it was such a profound conversation between basketball and I. In winter holiday, basketball is such a good sport to make our body stronger, and I also learned about the spirits of sports on the other hand. I am fond of this game. During the next holidays, I play basketball to Strong my physique, and also the sport itself tells me to insist my way to success, never, never give it up! As a competitor, I know how to decide my own manner, then I can easily solve the problem or figure out solutions by my way; as one of the defense, I realize how to correct mistake and have a necessary experience of group work. Sometimes, it's really tough for us to do a excellent job on study, but we can have an energetic body by training, by exercising. To do sports is a suitable way to stretch our bodies and relax our minds when we are boring of homework, on the other hand, to work effectively must base on a strong body at least. So we absolutely need it, our lives need it. As the end, I quote an proverb to finish: “The art of life lies in taking pleasures as they pass.” —— Francis Bacon

MY School Club,Organization report

“Badminton is a well-known sport around the world. In order to beat your opponent in badminton, you would have to be better at the fitness components compared to your opponent. The important fitness components important to badminton are Speed + Agility and Muscular Endurance.” ——Claude
I was only 6 when I first got hold of a badminton racket in summer. I was hitting the shuttlecock quite well when an older man (in his 20s) played opposite me. The wind was against me and I had to hit the bird harder. Then he stretched forth his racket hand and smashed the bird towards me. All of a sudden, the world turned black. The shuttlecock went straight into my right eye. I thought I was going to be blind. I cried. And for days, I vowed revenge. But I could no longer remember his face, for it was the first and only time I saw the guy.
Fortunately, my eye was not blind. After a long time curing in the hospital, I was discharged from hospital.
Badminton was just either a backyard or a street game for my parents back in the early 90’s. They told me that neighbors played in their yard or in the streets with cheap rackets. Girls, including the maids, loved the game. They think it was so sissy of us to play with them. No jump smash, no drives, no tricks. We were just hitting the cheap plastic bird to our delight. It was the pure fun in those days.
I continued playing badminton——
Then in my elementary school, the boys started to play the game, outnumbering the girls. After class, I joined the training. We hit the bird hard, and tried every smash and every trick. The goal was to keep the bird within the boundary and to hit the opponent very hard. So I mastered my defense, having experienced the pain of being hit in the eye a year before. We also improved our lift, lifting the bird higher than the coconut trees. It was really, really delightful.
Now I took part in the school intramurals. With only my knowledge in backyard, I just tried to try my best. Then I joined the badminton club in GCA. I was out to prove my strength.
On every Wednesday, I played with the members. After sports, my badminton friends were talking about the secrets I won. What is it in the street game that helped me improve my game? I showed them these skills they have never learned and experienced:
Control We were playing with an imaginary net. The street lines served as our boundaries, so we had to control the shuttle to keep it in.
Drives In an open space, sometimes we played against the wind. So we had to hit the bird hard. Lift. Aiming to hit higher than the coconut trees strengthened our wrists. Smash. To be able to hit our opponents, we had to smash them hard and in the area where their defense was weak. We usually target the backhand side.
Defense To defend ourselves from those killer drives and smashes, we had to be on the proper stance and racket position. I knew what it is to be hit on the eye. Footwork We kept on running in our imaginary court. The right footwork made it easy for us to cover all corners.
Placing Since my opponents ran faster than me in an open field, I had to properly place my shots to all corners to get that precious point.
I played better and better. Because of the conflict between my classes and the matches, it was such a pity to miss the games. On the other hand, I go on playing badminton, I learned the spirit in sports. I am fond of this game.

Volunter Work in the bookstore

Confucius Temple

Confucius, China's legendary sage, has lost. The advocate of respect, restraint and order is now associated in Nanjingers' minds with one thing--shopping!
Centered around the ancient Confucius Temple (Fuzi Miao), this neighborhood in southern Nanjing is the place to be on weekends and holidays, especially Spring Festival. Clothing shops and restaurants dominate the main streets (closed to vehicular traffic) while street stalls in the alleyways sell stuffed animals, plants, CDs and even more clothes. The daily night market brings these stalls out onto Gongyuan Street, the main drag between the Confucius Temple and Pingjiang Fu Street, a lively scene even if most of the goods on sale are simple household items. Try the yuanxiao元宵, jelly-filled dumplings whose round shape and sweet taste symbolize happiness and harmony.
Tourists not interested in bringing a cactus back home as reminders of their trip to Nanjing can load up on souvenirs at shops clustered closer to the Confucius Temple complex. In addition to the usual selection of jade goodies, teapots and paintings, vendors display yu hua shi雨花石, multicolored rocks special to Nanjing.
With all the garish consumerism on display outside, it's little wonder that the actual Confucius Temple is the quietest place in the neighborhood. The temple was first constructed in 1034 during the Song Dynasty to complement the Jiangnan Examination School (see below), where the imperial examinations were administered. Scholars came to the temple to pray for success and demonstrate their humble respect for Confucius. Burnt down and rebuilt several times, the current structure dates from after World War Two. Its traditional sweeping eaves give the architecture a Ming and Qing flavor.
Fuzi Miao is perhaps at its best around the time of the Lantern Festival (fifteen days after the Lunar New Year), when a special exhibit of multi-sized and multi-colored lanterns themed around the twelve animals of the lunar cycle lend a festive air to the temple.
If you think that your long, cramped journey was some form of torture, a visit to the Exhibition of the History of the Jiangnan Examination School (Jiangnan Gongyuan江南贡院), should set your mind at ease. Founded in 1168 (the Song Dynasty), the school was used to administer the rigorous civil service exams used to choose officials during China's imperial age.
The modern exhibit contains forty examination cells plus a small museum that claims to be the only specialized museum in China dedicated to the imperial examination system. Unfortunately, all the explanations are in Chinese. The exhibit is a short walk east of the Confucius Temple at 1 Jinling Lu.
It was my feelings , just to me like that. However, what is your experiences?~

Nanjing University ART EXHIBITION

“It was my first time to have a look at a sculpture exhibition. However, at least, these artworks were absolutely brilliant and made me feel excited about it. In the future, I wish I have an opportunity to dig more ability about arts. I like it." ——said by Claude
Some weeks ago, 10-C students and us went to Nanjing University for an exhibition called Wu Weishan Cultural Figures Sculpture Gallery. It was a wonderful trip that I had taken, which perfectly showed the artworks, the sculptures made by Mr.Wu. Many of the artworks described a couple of famous artists, authors and famous people from the past in Chinese history.
Looking around for a while, the sculpture which I was interested in was such a sculpture of a famous person in the ancient China named "Lao Zi". It was sculpted by Professor.Wu in the year 2005. The largest copy of this artwork is located in Jiang Su, Huainan. The most interesting thing is that there is also a famous paragraph called Tao Te Ching ("Dao De Jing" in Chinese) carved inside of the sculpture. With the empty area inside, it is big enough for a person to stand inside. Ancient Chinese words were carved in Lao Zi's body which are really archaic.
This kind of artworks made me feel very peaceful and broad. With thinking through the whole time, I realized many things, truths. As the main idea is said, "Empty" is the scene of the universe "Qiankun", and with no borders, it could share and embrace everything entirely. The thoughtful sculpture reminds me of an experience. Like the experience engraved in my mind, it also tells me how to forgive others and improve myself. Such a human nature, that like an old Chinese proverb, "the chest of a man is wider than the sky and is deeper than the oceans", so on the surface it says that the person has a kind and generous mind or heart. It makes me think of many senses such as how the world is, how we should treat others, how we should get along with others, and also the most necessary idea is about what our society is like. I guess that the artist's intention is to describe and represent the personalities of the famous Chinese philosopher, Lao Zi.
By showing his characteristics, which tells us what kind of person he is, let me know what the great person related to. For my curiosity, to carve the famous book of "Dao De Jing" inside the sculpture is a very creative skill or an idea of making artwork. Looking at "the high, even messy guy", my feeling is that the wise person is standing towards me,and for that, he tries to explain me something in his mind benignantly.
I feel the exhibition was a brain washing, it’s a kind of “fantasy” that I really liked, and from what I said, I knew a lot after the journey. In my mind, I promise I must be generous; I realize I still have lots of things to try and improve on; also, I will prove myself...
Fortunately, we met Professor Wu during the exhibition. A crowd of students rushed towards him, some asked for his signature, and some were taking photos around him. How thronged here was! Ha, art is so winsome, eh? Yep, I am fond of it.

Dinner in a western restaurant with Grade 12

Our class 10-A went to have dinner with grade 12 students on December 20th, 2008. We met at the gate of Tacos in Zhujiang Road at 6:00 p.m. During the first time without parents, most of our classmates could not wait to have this delectable dinner.
I reached by bicycle because the distance is so close. With all of our classmates mostly arrived in Tacos, at 6:30.we sat down with the grade twelve in the back of the restaurant where has a huge amount of big wooden tables , really enough for us to all sit down, even more comfortable .Then the waitress gave us the menu gracefully.
As the matter of fact, in other foreign restaurants, after having hors d'oeuvre, I was able to have pizzas, or something like that. I heard that they had ordered the diffident kinds of Mexican food, such as pizza along with some kinds of local food. So at last, I created a new way of eating there as I asked for a beefsteak. Waiting is so tough that I cannot bear the lure from the delicious food. Time faster and faster it went, hungrier and hungrier I was. After the “provoking” time, it was realistically such a delightful time with having dainty dishes in a good-surrounding restaurant which is clean but not very crowed.
At the end of this exiting activity, we took this experience of going out to have dinner together with our classmates indelibly. We laughed, played funny games and jokes together.
